Trigger finger (or stenosing tenosynovitis) is one of the most common diseases of the hand.
In this condition the interested finger gets stuck in a bent position and often must be extended by the other hand with a snap.
It is usually caused by an inflammation, that narrows the space within the digital canal, where the flexor tendons glide.
Symptoms include stiffness of the affected finger, especially in the morning, pain at the base of the finger, which is locked in a bent position.
It is more common in females and in people who have diabetes.
Therapy includes steroid injection or surgical release, which can be performed under local anesthesia.
